SAMUEL ST-AUBIN
ÉRIC FORGET
MAY 08 → OCTOBER 16 2023

This project explores the poetic and performative potential of sleep as a terrain for defining identity and reinterpreting self-knowledge. Having become the apartment of a stranger-sleeper, the exhibition space embodies the ramifications of sleep by transforming itself into the image of a fragmented narrative. Visitors are invited to explore the space and reconstruct the course of an improbable night through the objects and traces of events.
This installation contains videos from a sleep documentation of Éric Forget. His body movements were captured using an infrared camera.
Ce projet a été rendu possible grâce au soutien du Conseil des arts du Canada.
Remerciements au NTE et à Isabelle Gingras.
Samuel St-Aubin has been active in the electronic arts since 2002. He has collaborated in the production of the work of several artists and collectives in Quebec. These last years, he has put forward his own creative approach. This electronics technician invests everyday objects with a new reality. He infuses his creations with a dimension that goes beyond the utilitarian realism of the object. By diverting it from its primary use, he radically changes our relationship to the object. With unequivocal precision, his works put us directly in touch with the poetry of everyday life which is discovered in the simplicity of existence.
