Inspired by the shape of the dolos, a concrete tetrapod used to mitigate coastal erosion, DLSSE brings together seabed impressions moulded in clay to form spinning, sound-producing dolosse, set in motion by an autonomous robotic system.
The rhythm of the robotic movements, soundtrack, and visuals is determined by maritime data collected continuously throughout the exhibition. Visitors see and hear how this data affects the material through the gradual erosion of the clay.
The work explores the resilience of matter and adaptation to climate change through notions of perception, simulation, and memory.
