KOMOREBI

work-in-progress

STÉPHANE GLADYSZEWSKI

MAY 04 → JUNE 19

Immersive performance · 30 minutes

Komorebi is an evolving audiovisual installation triggered by the artist’s interventions.

Suspended in space, an array of 12,288 laser diodes generates a shower of light that gives shape to ephemeral virtual architectures. Light, air, vapor, and thermal variations compose a shifting atmospheric ecosystem.

For the presentation of this work-in-progress, the artist opens the doors of her studio-laboratory to 4 participants at a time (2 benches for 2 people), offering an immersive and intimate experience.

Stéphane Gladyszewski — inventor, performer, and lover of light — develops a practice guided by movement and the sense of touch, where matter, body, and light intertwine. In his studio-laboratory, he conducts “technographic” experiments that seek to reveal the hidden dimension of a multifaceted corporeality. Situated at the intersection of performance, visual arts, and digital media, his work explores the limits of perception and fosters in the viewer the emergence of an intimate psycho-sensory experience with their environment.

Sound design: Alexander MacSween.

The artist would like to thank her collaborators Alexandre Burton, Samuel St-Aubin, and David Barabé, without whom this project would never have come to fruition.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the installation: Maria Rudenko, Véronique, Dominique, and Mirek Thibodeau.

This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
