GENERATIVE ART ACCORDING TO EISODE
EISODE presents generative installations of contemporary art.
Generative art uses live processes – algorithmic, procedural, systematic, kinetic, biological, or performative – to create self-articulating works. Because these works possess constant variability linked to calculations, permutations, or interaction, their formal organization remains dynamic; that is, it is not entirely predetermined.
Although often associated with the use of technology, generative art is not specifically disciplinary. The works presented at EISODE may incorporate processes from all disciplines, as long as these processes involve generative mechanics.
Through its definition of generative art, EISODE circumscribes an aesthetic territory that is both specific and inclusive in order to support varied artistic practices that freely appropriate technologies.
SELECTION OF WORKS
The criteria established by EISODE aim to move away from curatorial intervention and towards a direct relationship between the artist, the artwork, and the public. They also serve to minimize subjectivity in the selection process. This method contributes to creating a neutral presentation context that values an understanding inherent to the artwork.
The criteria:
PLACE
Generative → The work is based on one or more live generative processes, so that its formal organization is not linear and precisely repeatable.
Space-time → The work relies on the specific parameters of the place: prolonged duration of visits, absence of social and artistic contamination, autonomy of the public.
Experience → The work consciously positions itself within a journey by involving the public before, during and/or after their experience.
Context → EISODE favors works that are integrated into the space, rather than those that deny their context of presentation. Artistic appropriation of the immediate environment – kitchen, terrace, roof, garden, etc. – is encouraged.
Installation → The work is not specifically disciplinary. It freely interweaves components – sound, visual, conceptual, performative, etc. – to create an installation that responds to the challenges of creation in 2026.
Adjacent to the laboratory of the Artificial organism (and benefiting from its specialized equipment), EISODE is a versatile open-plan space (900 square feet) designed to facilitate the integration of works into a direct and daily relationship.
Site-specific initiatives are encouraged through creative residencies. Equipped with a bed, a bathroom and a kitchen, the space then serves as accommodation.
