2025

The 2025 edition [13+14.06.2025] of the micro-symposium Juin Génératif focused on the contribution of computer formalization to artistic creation.

A priori, the world of computing seems to be opposed to that of art. Nevertheless, this technological instrument is inviting itself into contemporary artistic creation to enrich it with a new depth.

Computer formalization corresponds to the transformation of creative intuition into codified syntax. This process begins with the reduction of perceptual and aesthetic elements into abstract systems: algorithmic structures, statistical models, generative data, interactive diagrams and so on. This passage opens up a space where art can flourish in a dynamic relationship between the rigor of symbols and the unpredictability of the imagination. Far from reducing the artist to a mere technician, computer programming offers powerful tools for renewing artistic practices.

The contribution of computer formalization to creation thus lies in its ability to push back the boundaries of the possible, open up new aesthetic horizons and nurture an art form where logic and poetry meet.

MASTER CLASS

10:00 to 12:00 AM

<workshop> → Deployment strategies for audiovisual and interactive installations

Guillaume Arseneault, digital arts technology designer, reveals the behind-the-scenes of Sabrina Ratté's three projects exhibited at EISODE. Using video as the primary medium, the artworks implement complementary interactivity and synchronization mechanisms. Discover the methods and techniques used and perform practical exercises based on the principles presented. The activity format is highly interactive and encourages questions and discussion.

FORUM

1:00 PM <panel> → Approaches to collaborative creation for non-linear writing
Discussion between Sabrina Ratté [digital artist], Guillaume Arseneault [digital arts technology designer] and Roger Tellier-Craig [composer] moderated by Alexandre Burton.

2:00 PM <conference> → Hybrid machines beyond the human

Artist and scientist, Sofian Audry explores the behaviors of hybrid agents at the frontier of art, intelligence and artificial life.

3:00 PM <conference> → Programming languages: for humans or machines?
Professor of computer science, Jean Privat has been studying, analyzing and implementing programming languages for over 20 years.

2024

JUIN GÉNÉRATIF is an annual micro-symposium which offers meetings and friendly discussions around generative principles as drivers of creation.

The first edition [08.06.2024] began with a performance and an artist talk with FORTNER ANDERSON who launched the video version of his work of generative poetry entitled Reiterations. ALEXANDRE BURTON [digital instrument maker] presented the software created for the project Néons by MORTEFONTAINE [Jimmy Lakatos + Anne-Marie Boisvert], a luminous installation articulated by the superposition of generative behaviors. A discussion took place between Alexandre Burton and PÍA BALTAZAR [intermedia composer] on the contribution of the generative in the creative processes. The public then experienced the installation-performance Néons and the video installation Reiterations.
